Love for a Lifetime Discussion Day 13
Good Morning!
Day 13
One of my niece’s favorite songs is “Let it Go” from the Disney movie Frozen, and whenever it comes on she belts it out from her belly and sings it with all of her heart. I have to admit that this is the only line in the song that I know…so I just sing that part! What about you? What would happen in your love relationships if that was the only line you knew and sang?
In many of our minds we have frozen memories of our past hurts, disappointments, and regrets. With icy fingers we clench our grasp around the failures and mistakes that other people, especially loved ones, have made and caused us pain. Holding on and not letting it go can cause us to become frozen in time, stuck in our mess, and paralyzed us from moving forward. I am reminded of the story in the Bible about Lot’s wife. Remember how she was turned into a pillar of salt because she looked back! God doesn’t want us to look back, mourning over what was or how it used to be. He doesn’t want us to look back and hold onto memories that are not serving us in our new life with Him.
“Let it Go”…that’s exactly what Paul tells us in the second half of Philippians 3:13-14 when he declares, “but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” In our love relationships, we must focus ourselves on letting go of the past and start looking forward to the blessed and favored future God has for us. We have to “press” past our flesh and feelings and finish the race that God has called us to run, in this instance, walking in love. When we do, He will reward us with a heavenly prize, a heavenly prize like a loving and lasting relationship with our spouse, our children and our families.
Today I encourage you to belt it out loud from your belly and sing “Let it Go” and don’t look back!
Research – Philippians 3
Relate – What memories of pain and hurt do you have frozen in your mind? What is the consequence in your life?
Respond – Choose a painful memory or thought that you have been holding on to and “Let it Go”!
Reflect – What “heavenly prize” are you pursuing? Are you running the race as though you want to win?
Discussion Question – How can you “press” past your flesh and feelings and move into the future?
